Bernachon since the beginning
Wedding of Jean-Jacques Bernachon and Françoise Bocuse
Jean-Jacques Bernachon was born on the 27th of October 1944.
In 1966, Jean Jacques leaves for six months to work at Bensdorp of Amsterdam, and then in 1968 we find him amongst Paul Bocuse’s team. Not long after, on the 19th of June 1969, they happily celebrate the union between Françoise Bocuse and Jean Jacques Bernachon.
Creation of the « président »
The story of the président
The “Président,” maison Bernachon’s most famous cake, is a true original masterpiece.
In fact, in February 1975, Paul Bocuse received the Legion of Honour from the President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.
For the dinner celebrating this grand occasion, maison Bernachon and Paul Bocuse wanted to arrive at l’Elysée with an absolutely original creation. This would be the “Président,” specially created for the occasion (the first version for twenty people weighed 3 kg!).
Three layers of Cherry sponge cake covered with hazelnut praline ganache with cherries immersed in Cherry liquor. The signature chocolate shavings forming an explosion of chocolate will become the symbol of this spectacular cake. 40 years later, the “Président” is still the joy of many food connoisseurs around the world.
Opening of the tea house bernachon passion
Adjacent to the boutique is the Tea House, lunch menu is offered where you can appreciate a traditional Lyonnais dishes or delight in a sweet or savory threat for afternoon tea.
Jean-Jacques Bernachon takes over the family business
collaboration with Japan
Soon after Bernachon became the most prestigious reputable chocolatier in the city of Lyon. Its reputation has echoed overseas from articles in the New York Times to collaborations with Japan.

The children of Françoise and Jean-Jacques Bernachon : Candice, Stephanie and Philippe has taken over the Bernachon company in keeping with the tradition and passion that make Bernachon today.
